Background
Geminin is a multifunctional nuclear protein invloved in embyro development/differentiation, cell cycle regulation and DNA replciation. Originally defined as an inhibitor of DNA replication and substrate of the anaphase promoting complex, Geminin has also been shown to expand the neural plate in the developing embryos.
Geminin prevents DNA replication by blocking the MCM complex incorporation into prereplication complex (pre-RC). It is absent during the G1 phase and accumulates during the S, G2, and M phases of mitosis. Geminin is then degraded during the metaphase-anaphase trasitio,n allowing replication to occur during subsequent cycles.
Geminin antibodies are useful tools for a variety of research including developmental embryology, stem cell differentiation, neuroscience, and DNA replication studies.
