Background
CAP-G2 is a subunit of the heteropentameric condensin II complex. Condensin participates in the condensation of chromosomes during cell division by facilitating positive DNA supercoiling and knotting by topoisomerase I and II and proper segregation of sister chromatids. CAP-G2 is a non-SMC regulatory subunit of the condensin complex. Alternate names for CAP-G include condensin-II complex subunit G2, chromosome-associated protein G2, hCAP-G2, CAP-G2, Non-SMC condensin II complex subunit G2, leucine zipper protein 5, NCAPG2, LUZP5, MTB, and FLJ20311.
