Background
PC4 is a multifunctional transcriptional coactivator that plays an important role in transcription, repair, and replication. PC4 interacts with general transcription factors, DNA repair factors, and mRNA processing factors to influence transcription initiation, coactivation, polyadenylation, transcription termination, and transcriptional repression. PC4 has been demonstrated to be a DNA binding protein and a bona fide component of chromatin with chromatin-compacting ability. Alternate names for PC4 include activated RNA polymerase II transcriptional coactivator p15, SUB1 homolog, positive cofactor 4, p14, SUB1, RPO2TC1, and MGC102747.
