Background
Contactin-2 (CNTN2), also known as TAX1 (human), TAG1 (rat), and Axonin-1 (chicken), is a cell adhesion molecule that belongs to the contactin subfamily within the immunoglobulin (Ig) protein superfamily. Contactin-2 contains 6 Ig-like domains followed by 4 fibronectin type III-like repeats. The gene for human CNTN2 encodes a 1040 aa precursor protein with a 28 aa signal peptide and a 984 aa mature secreted protein that is attached to the membrane via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol(GPI)-anchor.
