Bipolar Disorder: Disease Bioinformatics

Bipolar Disorder is a mental illness that causes dramatic changes in mood. Shifts in mood can occur anywhere from a couple times a year to a couple times a day. Mood swings usually go from full energy to depression or the other way around. The cause of bipolar disorder is still unknown, but some think it may be caused by inherited traits, hormones, or the environment. Symptoms of the manic phase of bipolar disorder include poor judgment, rapid speech, and irritation. Symptoms of the depressive phase include loss of interest, fatigue, and hopelessness. Bipolar disorder is often treated with medications and psychological counseling. Bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition and medications are continued throughout their life.
