Crohn Disease: Disease Bioinformatics

Crohn disease, otherwise known as inflammatory bowel disease, regional enteritis, Ileitis, Granulomatous ileocolitis, is an autoimmune disease where parts of the digestive tract become inflamed. Although people are more at risk to develop Crohn Disease when they have an affected family member, one may develop the disease even if there is no genetic history of having the disease. Smoking, ones age, and the environment in which one lives in also increase the risk of developing Crohn disease. Crohn disease affects about 100 to 150 out of every 100,000 people and is seem most often in Caucasians of eastern and central European (Ashkenazi) Jewish descent, as well as people between the ages of 15 and 35. Crohn disease is a chronic disease and leads to an increased risk of developing colon cancer, but Crohn disease is not fatal itself and can be managed with the correct treatment and diet.
