Description
UNC5C is a gene that codes for a protein that is the receptor for netrin that is required for axon guidance, as it mediates the axon repulsion of neuronal growth cones when there is ligand binding in the nervous system, and can also help to induce apoptosis. The protein encoded by UNC5C has two isoforms, with lengths of 931 and 597 amino acids and weights of approximately 103 and 66 kDa respectively. Current studies are being done on diseases and disorders related to this gene including colorectal cancer, renal cell carcinoma, rheumatoid arthritis, Parkinson's disease, kidney cancer, colon cancer, osteoarthritis, schizophrenia, and neuronitis. UNC5C has also been shown to have interactions with NTN1, PTPN11, DAPK1, DCC, and FYN in pathways such as the netrin signaling and axon guidance pathways.
