Description
Histones are nuclear proteins that are responsible for the nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber as they play a critical role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, DNA replication, and chromosomal stability. H4/H is a103 amino acid long, 11 kDA protein encoded by the HIST1H4H gene found on chromosome 6. HIST1H4H is intronless and its proteins lack polyA tails but contain palindromic termination elements. HIST1H4H is active in type II interferon signaling, nucleosome assembly, telomere maintenance, histone modification, and nuclear receptor activation by vitamin-A. It interacts with other genes such as HIST1H3A, HIST1H3B, HIST1H3C, HIST1H3D, and HIST1H3E. the HIST1H4H gene has been investigated for its role in carcinoma, immunodeficiency, lymphoma, and lupus.
