Glycophorin C Antibody (BRIC4) [CoraFluor™ 1] Summary
Description |
CoraFluor(TM) 1 is a high performance terbium-based TR-FRET (Time-Resolved Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer) or TRF (Time-Resolved Fluorescence) donor for high throughput assay development. CoraFluor(IM) 1 absorbs UV light at approximately 340 nm, and emits at approximately 490 nm, 545 nm, 585 nm and 620 nm. It is compatible with common acceptor dyes that absorb at the emission wavelengths of CoraFluor(TM) 1. CoraFluor(TM) 1 can be used for the development of robust and scalable TR-FRET binding assays such as target engagement, ternary complex, protein-protein interaction and protein quantification assays. |
Immunogen |
Human erythrocytes |
Specificity |
NBP2-33304 recognises the erythrocyte transmembrane glycoprotein CD236, also known as glycophorin C (GPC). CD236 is an integral membrane protein which carries the Gerbich blood group antigens. Expression of CD236 is not restricted to erythroid cells, but is broadly distributed in both erythroid and non-erythroid tissues. Clone BRIC4 specifically reacts with an epitope located within residues 2-21 of CD236. |

Background
Glycophorin C (GYPC) is an integral membrane glycoprotein. It is a minor species carried by human erythrocytes, butplays an important role in regulating the mechanical stability of red cells. A number of glycophorin C mutations havebeen described. The Gerbich and Yus phenotypes are due to deletion of exon 3 and 2, respectively. The Webb and Duchantigens, also known as glycophorin D, result from single point mutations of the glycophorin C gene. The glycophorin Cprotein has very little homology with glycophorins A and B.
